SHADOW SHOW

Shadow Show

This research project looked at ethnographical and archival still and moving images from the late 19th century and early 20th century. These images portray how the new photographic technology of the time was used to dis-place and control other cultures and peoples. Combined with public domain footage the ‘Shadow Show’ video holds up a mirror from the past to reflect on the present. The power control implicit in these early images is still with us.
